though this band may be "emo"tional, we once again can only derive ourselves to one answer which is that yes! though they may be very emotional with their music, they do not represent the emo style at all. they are nothing but a great band with one, if not the most, talented lyricist of our time. and lets face it with the world the way it is, any child from the 80's-now has had to deal with a domain that is just laughable....

Why is emo a bad thing? All other bands who get labeled as Emo like Taking Back Sunday, My Chemical Romance and all the other mainstream bullshit aren't emo at all. Brand New is emo just as the Horrors are a post-punk revival band, or how the Strokes are a garage rock band. People forget that bands like Sunny Day Real Estate or Embrace, Rites of Spring, were great emo bands and the founding father of a genre that gets shit on regularly because of shitty bands like MCR and TBS.

Emo is a label that's easy to slap onto a band, but it's a gimmick only completed with make up and two men making out on stage, not the case here. Alternative rock is Brand New's genre.
