You're absolutely right, hahaha. I know some artsy commercial won't make me buy a particular brand of pants, but I can't help but feel that, (however misleading) this is a well thought-out ad that could be effective of the more impressionable youth of America.

I don't define myself or my generation with pants. I think you're overestimating pants. I like Whitman in a book or on the TV equally. I won't stop buying Levi's just because they put America in their commercial, nor will I stop buying any pants because of their commercial, nor will I buy any pants just because of their commercial.
They are always, always just pants.

i love this commercial! the poem by walt whitman just is perfect and while it captures the essense of wat jeans used to be used for, the style it was meant for now its lost on people which is sad.

There is no better way to "Go forth," be a pioneer, be independent or stick it to the man than to go to Sears and buy a thirty dollar pair of jeans. It would be great if by viewing this commercial people would appreciate poetry/literature more but I doubt that this will be the case. I believe that few will ever know who the author is, what the significance of the poem is, or read any of his other works as a result of this commercial.

They are brilliant commercials. And, anything that gets an American to listen to or read a poem is a GOOD thing!

haha my girlfriend and i (i'm white, she's black) had a whole convo about this commercial about how we thought that the inclusion of an interracial kiss was just to seem "edgy". by the end of the convo we were saying shit along the lines of "is that all we're here for? to look edgy while holding hands on the subway? is that our destiny?"

incidentally i prefer levi's over wrangler or whatelse, but that has more to do with their product in fitting rooms than their marketing
