I'm glad you brought up the issue of jealousy. I hate when people make the assumption that those of us who aren't mixed are somehow envious of mixed people who have the option of identifying as "other." I think the problem is, to some, it seems that people are not wanting to identify as Black simply because they don't like that part of them. And I know that to be true from experiences with people I know.

Are you aware mulatto means mule?

@mom2dave EXACTLY. Because it always comes from those who really coulfn't pass if they wanted to. This young lady has very strong Afro-typic features. There are people in my black family who resemble her look. No big deal. They're black, and I'm sure they have some mixture as do we all to some degree. But those who make a big deal of it almost always tend to be the ones who cannot pass for non-black, so they want to let the world know they are mixed with non-black.

Halle and Jennifer are not white. *smh* And yes, Jennifer Beals DOES look like some blacks. Black doesn't come in one shade fits all. Please try to join the KKK since you are white. Vanessa L. Williams looks whiter than you, and she proudly proclaims herself a black woman. This is pathetic.

@SylviaNCali This meant that if you came from a race that had a notable/noteworthy civilization (ie Japan, Babylon, Egypt, etc) would would still be discriminated against but you wouldn't be the most debased in society. However, if you, or your ancestors, came from a hunter-gatherer society (ie Sub-Sahara Africa, The New World, Australian Aborigines, etc) then you were the most debased in society. You'd be dehumanized because of it.

@SylviaNCali That sounds nice but it will never happen. Whites invented the concept of race to determine who gets what. It was a way of determining the allocation/misallocation of resources. During the Age of Exploration, Europeans would collect data from plants, animals, and even human beings. Taxonomy was applied to all three. Europeans would determine a person's aptitude based on their race and their races' civilizationals achievements.

I love your twists.

The one thing I don't get is how you see the association between the race of someone's mom with someone's opinion of their mom. People don't see they have a white mom, they usually just see their mom. But I think a black mom is more likely to address the race issue while white moms ignore race.

it has nothing to do with influencing one's "opinion" of their mom at all!

I know that being mixed will equal you being a minority racially. But the sad thing is colorism exist, and that until people can stop trying to make people black or white when they're both, and when people can stop seeing people as more then because of the color of their skin. This will continue to be an issue.
