I just YESTERDAY completely cleaned up the interior or the ELECTRIC portion of a system that has the pump in the boat ON a 1983 Mercury 70hp ... was also used on OMC's, Volvo Penta's, Mercruisers, and BMW outboards !? ....
the interior of the electric motor was VERY rusty .. cleaned up VERY well with a rotozip .... cleaned all reassembled and 100%
