Author Laurel Steinhice talks about her recent triumphant return to Berlin, Germany, as featured guest of The German Government, The Allied Museum, and The City of Berlin for the opening of a historical exhibit at Tempelhof Airport honoring the life and deeds of her mother, Marion S. Coleman, one of the Allies' highest ranking civilians during the reconstruction of Germany. The exhibit (An American in Berlin) featured personal items, historical photos, and treasured artifacts from Marion and Laurel's time in post-World War II Berlin, from 1946 to 1953. The showcase offered the German people an inside look at the daily lives of German, American, French, British, and Russian citizens, working to rebuild the nation, through the first-hand experiences of Marion and Laurel. Showcasing vintage clothing, recreations of period offices, mural-sized photos from the archives of Marion and Laurel, and treasured family heirlooms, the exhibit focused on the human side of the recovery, leading up to the airlift and the subsequent building of the Berlin Wall. This documentary shows Laurel's emotional return to the land of her youth, a place of sacred memories, amazing highs, and aching lows. This is her story of her journey, including actual video of the exhibit's opening, and the events surrounding it.
