Arrow Air Flight 1285 was a McDonnell Douglas DC-8-63CF jetliner, registered N950JW, which operated as an international charter flight carrying U.S. troops from Cairo, Egypt, to their home base in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, via Cologne, Germany and Gander, Newfoundland. On the morning of December 12, 1985, shortly after takeoff from Gander en route to Fort Campbell, the aircraft crashed, and burned about half a mile from the runway, killing all 256 passengers and crew on board.

  • Very sad indeed.R.I.P all crew and passengers. And up yours bomb conspiracy investigators, you are a thorn in the side of truth.

  • @sbergman27 The 3rd event was US Air Flight 405 out of LaGuardia. Clearly, no conspiracy theories are needed to explain this crash.

  • Note that even after Gander and Dreyden, which this video covers... the CASB report was *still* not heeded. The same thing happened *yet again*. In New York, IIRC. Or was it Detrroit? Conspiracy theorists are not doing air safety any good by perpetuating the "bomb" fantasy.

  • @EdwardRichtofenDr The evidence clearly supports the CASB report. No point in going conspiracy-crazy. Iran-Contra was real. And our then-current Teflon President was guilty as hell. But that doesn't mean we can automatically blame every fiery crash on it. As pointed out in the video, it's rational to go with the forensic science, and not conspiracy-theorist amateurs' personal opinions.

  • 07:30 Always looking to the bright side, it meant that there would be more cake for the other people at the reception.

  • There is a distance at which it is impossible abort take-off and stop before the end of the runway. But I've never heard of any automatic system monitoring and aborting take-off if there is a problem before that time. There should be. Of course, it may be that the critical time is too early in the take-off to tell. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't have such a fail-safe. It means that we need longer runways. Few crashes could not have been avoided were proper automation in place.

  • One of the greatest things about "the worst air disaster of all time" is that there is such a wide selection.

  • @hailtheheroful oh, don't mind my nick - the question was indeed serious. thanks for the comment, even though it's doesn't exactly address my questions. I was wondering about the possibility of there being a more political background behind the incident.

  • @yourpersonalspammer with a username like yours, it's hard to say you're being serious about your comment. personally, i think it was the fact the plane was not de-iced and the other 12000 lb difference. if the weight was corrected, the plane would've needed more speed to lift-off properly and with the ice completely removed would have allowed the plane to ascend without stalling just after lift-off.

  • it was funny when the co pilot said its flying like a pig!
