In this episode of 'Another Walk with Mike' we come upon an Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake. Many salient features were uncovered during the days journey, but in this video we will focus on just this one snake. Why? Because it deserves it. I found the snake while using the 'outdoors boy's room,' just prior to getting into my kayak. I was only a few feet away from the large snake before the camouflaged, diamondback design was decoded by my eyes. Watch and enjoy this majestic creature!

  • You're seeing unnatural selection at work. Over the past few decades more and more rattlesnakes are not rattling their tails. That's because the ones that do rattle are killed off (either immediately or they're gathered up for the infamous roundups) so only the silent ones are left.

  • @heart4herps Very interesting. Yes, I've heard that theory before. What was at one time an evolutionary trait to help prevent unnecessary foot traffic has become an attractant of the wrong kind. Good point. I have another great encounter of an Eastern Diamondback on film if you get a chance to view it. Thanks for your comment.

  • I'm always amazed when fellow Floridians tell me that. Without evenb trying I've seen about 15 snakes this month and I'd guess 10 of those venomous. I guess I've kinda trained my eye. But thanks so much for your comment. It's interetsing to hear other people's experiences. Btw, I'm about to put up a neat video about uncovering some Octopuses and chasing dolphin. Not a winning chase when your swimming behind them, but worth the watch.

  • My little mixed-breed dog, Kelly, was bitten by one of these in my backyard three weeks ago and died a few hours later at the Vet. It broke my heart.

For that reason, I'm not quite as fond of these creatures as you seem to be!

  • Be careful Mike!

Nice job bro. I wish that everyone loved nature the way we do...The world would be a better place.
