This video uses footage from several cities globally to demonstrate special signals at pedestrian crossing points across light rail lines can help improve pedestrain safety.

First we see an example on a line located in a dual-carriageway (divided highway) median in Düsseldorf, Germany.

This crossing is fitted with alternating flashing lamps which advise passengers when a vehicle is coming and a linked signal (a flashing white light) to give LRV drivers confidence that the pedestrian signals are working correctly.

Also seen are variations on the theme from Calgary, Canada and Manchester, England

  • clever stuff :)

I think they should use them for the pubic crossings (such as Shiremoor and Bank Foot) on the Tyne and Wear Metro

Alex, why suggest this to them?

    Good Luck!
