One of the best interceptor bird from cold war. In India, we still have em for first line of defense duties and patrol. Quite reliable ol bird. Under the hands of an experienced pilot it can do real damage and it can be a pilots doom if he does not respect it. As far as modern day BVR combat is concerned it has disadvantages, but missiles are not just fire and forget and a good pilot can out fly them if he has good early warning data. So avionics and Awacs make the difference here.

@rvederis1991 As usual with Russian equipment it was rarely used for its intended purpose. But still performed well in its modified role.

It's funny how people think the 21 is a dogfighter. Although it was an awesome dogfighter it's main purpose is an intercepter. It was intended for high altitude interception of b52. That's why it has a low fuel capacity especially the early version f13.

I can't believe I see my mig 21 in here. It's the 0201 one with airforce colors. That's the way I got it but now it had been repainted to original colors.

@goldcoastflyer No the SR.177 was a prototype design similar to the F-104 that most European countries had committed to buying but there has been evidence that Lockheed bribed the governmentS for them to purchase the F-104.

In today's air combat (1) The Missiles and (2) the Radar makes all the difference.
The fighter is a mere platform.
What good is the best trained soldier in the world if he gets a bullet in the head from a Sniper on a hill 1 mile away?

Ill tell you the deal, when i was in the cold war this bird was on our hot list. However the A4 could take it out (with a shit hot pilot) in a dogfight subsonic! much Respect!!!! To the Mig 21+Greatly feared !!!

a lot of people have the belief that if u load a planes avionics with the latest tech then it will become equal to current 4. 4.5 or 5th gen fighters.
the reality is an aircrafts capability is determined by:
1. Its aerodynamic design/airframe/structure
2. Its avionics and other systems
3. Pilots
Unless all 3 are available and superior combat superiority cannot be established.
