In 1954, Attorney General-elect Albert Patterson is assassinated, and his son John Patterson took his place on the ticket. John vowed to clean up the gambling and prostitution in Phenix City and bring his father's killers to justice. He later became governor, and was thrust into national and international politics with events such as civil rights demonstrations, the freedom riders, the Bay of Pigs, and the removal of Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore.
