Nyongo Grilled

Medical Services Minister Prof Peter Anyang Nyongo has admitted he may have made a mistake when he appointed Dr. Onudi Olang'o as the Director of the Kenya Medical Training College last year. Nyong'o who was being grilled by joint departmental committees on delegated legislation and health said he had been forced to make that decision due to a managerial crisis in the college at the time. But the minister defended his decision saying he did not have faith in the board and the human resource firm contracted to conduct the interviews of applicants for the job, as they gave him names of people previously mentioned adversely in the managerial incompetence at KMTC

Grilling of public servants is healthy and necessary to avoid impunity. Let them sweat. After all they are paid millions to deliver. Infact all candidates for ministerial or parastatal positions should be publicly vetted, background investigated and grilled before they are appointed.

I honestly think he was placed between a rock and a hard place. Considering that there was a report that mentioned 3 of the 4 adversely - it seems that the board was incompetent and going back to them was futile.I would have acted the same way... his only SIN was appointing a Luo.
