On the 28th of August 1947 Mario Lanza made his Hollywood Bowl debut, it was a great success & led directly to his MGM contract. One of the highlights of the concert that evening was the "Love Duet" from Puccini's "Madama Butterfly" which Mario sang with soprano Frances Yeend. The following year Mario made his professional operatic debut in this very opera with the New Orleans Opera House Association. Mario again revisited "Madama Butterfly" in his 2nd film as the "Vogliatemi Bene" duet provided the memorable climax of the film...
This video is a tribute to the historic 1947 Hollywood Bowl concert, Mario's professional operatic debut of 1948 & the film performance of 1950...
The audio is the live Hollywood Bowl performance with Frances Yeend...

Beautiful video. This is a marvelous piece of work and most certainly a difficult one too. Mario himself would be very pleased to see such caring homage to his wonderful voice and acting. Thank you for this.

Dear Vince,
Please do keep making these now that you are on a "roll". This one is a bit eerie, but makes sense since Kathryn and Mario dubbed this one when making the film two years later! And the sound of his voice isn't far away from the sound he created at Hollywood Bowl. I know those who don't like Kathryn's voice will love this!!!

Great montage plus very neat synchronising of the Lanza of the Hollywood Bowl Concert with his lip movements in the Toast of New Orleans. Very impressive result of what must have been many hours of thought and patient work.
