Lego-built paper taper digital paper tape recorder in operation. This system could receive a batch of data, up to available memory and print it as bits onto a paper tape.
Then, on command, it could read back a paper tape, turning the marks into bits, and transmit that back via IR to the host computer. It was just a proof of concept, but it worked both ways reliably. I think the data rate was something like 0.0003 kBits/sec or something.
i can install windows or linux in a few hundred years with this thing!
