These kittens have shown up in a friend's backyard 3 months ago and we had decided to take 2 of them. At this age they are ready to be separated from the mother and it was time for their first vaccination.

But these are completely feral cats, never been touched by a human, usually scared s%&tless (unless food is involved) ... so, how to catch 4 kittens at once?

  • Hmmmm now take them to the vet like that for some real fun.........Actually the stray I caught I released into a tiny bathroom to get used to me first (for about a week) and calmed down enough to put a body harness on so he would be easier to move and control at the the vets office (they liked that alot)

  • @equarg we took them to the vet right away (that was the whole point of the capture) and by now, 1 year later, they have settled in fairly nicely

  • @juliusnacken

WOW fast response.....I''m glad...I bet the vet had some "fun" though...(aka 4 unhappy kittens) But it was kind of you to give all four of them a home. I do a TNR....The tom cat I caught also had a benign mass in his ear (fine now) so I wanted to handle him a bit so he would be calmer for examination. He did fine. Kept him for a week 1/2 to fully heal..then let him go..very unhappy in the house. Caught him again to see if all was well and he's happier now with the mass gone.

  • @equarg actually, we only kept 2 of the cats, the other 2 were released back into their environment (where mama cat and others roam)

The visit to the vet was actually pretty harmless, since the kittens had calmed down a lot after 10 minutes (cats can be so fatalistic)

  • You shouldn't have covered them with a blanket or something. That would calm them down instantly. If you do it, do it right.

  • @pina782 you mean i should have (not 'shouldn't') .. well .. they calmed down after 1 minute anyways ... I think we did alright

  • We have a similar trap. If you toss the trap in the pond the cats are much calmer after about 5 minutes. Much easier to remove.

  • wait a second...IT'S A TRAP!

  • @feriwarlock my son does not like needles either, still I get him up to date with his vaccinations.

  • @xaipirina I have yet to meet a cat that likes needles, so the answer is no.

  • @kateblue555 how was that mean? Do you think the kittens would have followed a friendly invitation to get vaccinated??

  • at the end when they thought it was funny but it was mean it is ok to do one at a time

  • that was cute. especially the running around after the trap was sprung.

  • xaiprina- it puts into question te irresponsible variety of pet keeping. folks who do not get their pets fixed and let them outside are 90% of stray cat and dog prob.

  • @lingbopper88 that puts into question any kind of pet keeping ... I really do not like your solution

  • save time, just submerge cage in water deep enough to cover it for 30 seconds. peaceful end to their miserable disease spreading lives. you only perpetuate the problem with this sappy misuse of resources like a vet, surgery or shots. Australia has a solid feral cat solution, shoot on sight and post the carcasses so other cats can see them. That's effective, yours is not.
