雪の日のキジ♂2007 Pheasant Bros. in Winter

庭には二羽雉がいた。♂同士で喧嘩しないのが不思議に思い（兄弟なのだろうか？）調べたら、♂がケーンと鳴いたり縄張りを形成し始めるのは繁殖期前の3月頃らしい。
追記（『動物生態学への招待』p134より引用）：
繁殖期以外のキジは、おもに雄は雄同士、雌は雌同士で群れを作って生活するが、春になると雄間で喧嘩が始まり、まず二羽ずつのグループとなり、やがて一羽が残る。この雄は­、まず縄張りを確保し、ついで五～八羽の雌を呼び入れ、ハーレムを作る。アブレ雄は縄張りを持たず、求愛声を出さない。

mnn looks tasty, hey my dad showed me this cool trick, set out a tube with one end closed off, sprinkle corn in front of it, and some inside and the bird will walk into tube but cant back out... pull the other end off tube and ring its neck, thus, RING NECK pheasant

ど田舎で辺りが農耕地なので、キジは珍しくありません。

夏はケーンケーンと鳴いてうるさいぐらいです。

2009年バージョンの撮影機会を狙っていたのですけど、先日は­カメラを構える際にうっかり物音を立ててしまい、驚いたキジはバ­サバサバサと盛大な羽音と共に逃げてしまいました。

このときも二羽でした。
