Cleveland Cavaliers Head Coach Mike Brown has been named the winner of the Red Auerbach Trophy as the NBA Coach of the Year for the 2008-09 season, the NBA announced today.
Brown received a total of 355 points, including 55 first-place votes out of a possible 122, from a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. Coaches were awarded five points for each first-place vote, three points for each second-place vote and one point for each third-place vote received.
Brown directed the Cavaliers to an NBA and franchise-best 66-16 (.805) record. With the 66 victories, Cleveland became just the 12th team in NBA history to win 66 or more games in a season. The Cavaliers also posted a 39-2 (.951) record at The Q, which tied for the second-best home record in league history. Their 27-14 (.659) road record tied for the second-best road record in the league this season.

How does a gameplan of "get the ball to LeBron" merit an award for the best coach in the best basketball league in the world? First of all that gameplan is used in YMCA leagues Mr. Brown. I honestly think he just sits on the sideline every game and prays that the other team can't contain LeBron. I think the coaches should vote for coach of the year because they would be honest and unaffected by media spotlight on the Ringless King. The only coach that would mess that up would be Don Nelson haha

we saw what happened to "COACH of the YEAR" when he met Orlando.
One thing about the NBA playoffs, you really really see, what a coach is made of, because you actually get to see the adjustments made game to game.
Cleveland didn't adjust anything. Lewis and Hedo absolutely had their way game after game.

Rich Adelman is the real coach of the year. Rick or atleast Nate McMillan should of won. not Mike Brown. If anything that one old white dude should of been the one who should of won it. I think that old white guy is the coach for the Pistons now.

ye, him being COY is a total joke, his tactics against Magic was what have lost them that series. It seems that nowadays most of the awards go to the top 2-3 teams

i noticed something the other day, in Game 4. With his team in closing moments, this guy just paces back and fourth and the assistants are the ones drawing up plays. not just once, but on 3-4 occasions. U'd think, he would pick up the chalkboard once!!!!!
