Internationally recognized scholar of American literature and University Professor Emory Elliott discusses how writers use literature to get the United States to live up to its dreams and expectations, as well as the significance of research in the humanities and the importance of the Center for Ideas and Society.
Professor Elliott, was instrumental in the creation of the UCR Center for Ideas and Society and was one of only 36 people to have attained the rank of university professor. He passed away on March 30, 2009 at the age of 66.
