@wbmkk Although your post is a month old I'll try helping you out. Your question is hard to understand but he just echo's the $mytext4 variable to learn you something. But besides that it is just like you said: pointless.

I am new to PHP and find your tutorials very good ... however the curly brackets is a bit confusing ...
$mytext3=$mynum . $mytext;
$mytext4="{$mynum} shopping days to Christmas";
I can not really see the reason for the 2nd option .. surely if $mynum is changed, row one will be OK ?
Still very puzzled !
