Servant Nanak is forever a sacrifice, a sacrifice, a sacrifice, O Lord. ||25||

The true treasure found within the Sikh holy scriptures Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The message of Gurbani is extremely humbling and truly universal.

Sikhs are neither Hindus nor Muslims. Sikhs believe in unity of mankind. Sikhs worship only 1 God. Sikhs are servents to humanity. In a Gurdwara regardless of cast religion colour creed gender sexuality etc, any person will get food, shelter and protection indiscrimatly. The Sikh faith is not a missionary faith. Sikhs believe is truely universal.. the Sikhs are very tolerant to people belonging to different religions. To a Sikh, none is inferior or superior before God. A Sikh believes in the universal brotherhood of mankind. An ideal Sikh lives a simple and humble life IE eats little and simple foods, sleeps little etc. Sikhs believe in keeping the body in its nature and the acceptance of Gods Will, This is symbolised by the uncut hair (kes or kesh) which is covered by a turban (phag or dastaar). Since 9/11 Sikhs are often abused both physically and verbally because the Sikhs are mistaken for Muslims. Out of all world faiths it is only the Sikhs who are required to keep uncut hair covered by a turban. Make no mistake, A person with a beard and turban in the western world is much mroe likely to be a member of the Sikh faith rather then a Muslim.

The Harmandir Sahib is often referred to as the center of the Sikh faith. It was built by the Sikh Gurus themselves. The structure of the Harmandir Sahib has specific features that symbolize particular aspects of the faith. Firstly the foundation stone was laid down my a Muslim Saint, Huzrat Mian Meer which puts an emphasis on equality and unity amongst humaninity. Traditionally Hindu temples would be built on high grounds such as hills and mountains. Guru Arjun Dev Ji specifically had the Harmandir Sahib built on a lower level than surrounding land so devotees had to step down to enter it. This symbolizes that what ever status you have in society whether high or low we are all on the same level in the temple of God. There are entrances on all for sides of the Harmandir Sahib itself. This symbolizes that the Harmandir Sahib is open to all regardless of what faith you follow, what direction you come from and what caste you belong to. The Harmandir Sahib soon became the centre of the Sikh faith, even to this day and is always open to one and all providing food and shelter indiscriminately at all times.
