The 2010 Lemelson-MIT Invention Index found that although many teens are interested in careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (also known as STEM), they feel discouraged because they don't understand what careers are available in STEM, or they don't know anyone working in those fields. With our two-part innovation, teens can learn about the kinds of interesting and exciting jobs that await them through a guided video field experience, and then they can actually talk to the scientists they see "on TV." With weekly check-ins with their classroom's STEM professional, the positive relationship is reinforced, and the students feel that they actually know someone working in their desired career, increasing the likelihood of continuing on a successful career path in STEM.
