It slinks into your consciousness
like a thief
down a dark alley.
You know it will be there
but you don't see
You fear it
yet never really believe
Not you, it can't happen to you.
Like the sleeping,
you are safe
from things that go BUMP
in the night.
Uncharted possibilities
are out of the contents table
because you just don't believe,
not you, it couldn't
happen to you
and so it slinks into your
consciousness
like a thief
down a dark alley
and you know for sure
it will be there
but you just wont
see...

I've been very close to this .. but not for many years... somehow, being a mom changed that for me -- and it hurts to know that for some, even that is not enough ....

"not you, it can't happen to you" -- how many times I had thought exactly that while listening to a horrible story ... 5* + favorited.

sometimes I fear that if I even think "thank goodness this isn't happening to me!" then I'm tempting fate to MAKE it happen to me..... :(

Truly scary shit isn't it? Not even the act but.. that that though crosses your mind.

Come to think of it THAT is the scary bit. Those thoughts floating around in your head. What actually happens isn't scary at all. At least not THAT scary.

Should be a lesson in there to not be so scared by the thoughts. The can not make good anyway. Somehow that isn't very helpfull.

I s'pose it all depends on your philosophy... until a thought is born, it cannot take reality -- but once it has been dreamed up by your imagination, well, then its no holds barred! who knows what your subconscious mind might be working up to have you bring about that which you so fear....

Horror.

I'm so glad I know how he looks. I take just enough meds to keep him at bay but never so much that he can hide in the shadows.

He's like that old 'friend' from years ago but we grew apart. He sends me a card around Christmas telling me I still think about him. Just so I know he will always be there.

I take comfort in that. Just a card at Christmas is all the reasurance I need.

I think thats what poetry is for me -- its never been about a story -- its always been about raw emotion and using a very short delivery method to cut it across.....
