what i read here is just bullshit. she teaches randy fucking blythe from lamb of god, corey taylor, mark hunter etc. etc. basically some of the greatest extreme metal vocalists out there. Listen to Randy, does he sounds like everybody else!? Fuck no ! Melissa is one of the best extreme vocal teacher out there, if you can´t learn how the scream from her dvds, you either dumb or too lazy to do warm ups and shit. End of the story

When I was 14 and didn't have a computer, I read about this DVD from a magazine and I ordered it through the mail. I watched it a few times and sang with the cd that came with it, but I ended up giving it away. Like I said, I don't sing at all anymore. I wish more kids would try to sing like how Dani Filth used to or at least try to some up with their own sound. Half the metalcore vocalists I hear these days sound the exact same.

@ProgHead93 I've only seen parts on youtube and I learned little to nothing to. I've heard her dvd is good allthough I have no idea myself. This is the best stuff I have come across: search for Christine Sadolin complete vocal technique

Good stuff for overall singing. It contains proper instructions on how to growl aswell, not just these "imagine this or that" but real instructions on what to do with your throat and tongue, voice box etc.

I don't sing anymore, but when I did, I pretty much just screamed as if I was screaming at someone I hate and just used my diaphragm. I'm not into gutturals or anything, but I love how Dani Filth's voice used to sound in the late 90's/early 2000's. I'll never figure out how he achieved those vocals. Is any case, Melissa Cross annoys the shit out of me. I used to buy her videos and cd's in middle school and it helped me accomplish jack shit.

I personally think Melissa's vocals sound terrible. If you took something out of her videos, that's good, but I learned jack shit from her videos.

@ProgHead93 I have problems telling the difference between some vocal frys and some false chords. Check out SanityBreaks (his new stuff) here on youtube, Im pretty sure he is doing vocal fry. They are NOT weak.

Also: surely you can apply diaphragm support with both vocal fry and false chord? I am a false chord vocalist myself, struggling to learn vocal frys. When doing those I find that I am so far only able to do highs, and they require as much diaphragm use but far less air then false chords.

@ProgHead93 Naaaaah, I wouldn't say that. I've been doing death metal vox for maybe two years now, and I sing in a band, but I also learned the fry technique a while ago, and I can do it extremely loudly. One thing though, if you're going to use it, you shouldn't learn it with this approach. Real fry screaming has a guttural element in it that Melissa never does, and it's waaay louder. My fry sounds a bit like Trivium, not like his weak noise.
