Take a challenging aural adventure as Mrfixitrick investigates the ups and downs of navigation to Parallel Worlds. The Beta Blocker radio, through real-time frequency changes, becomes a Worm-Hole Transporter in this segment of the Beta Blocker Radio series.

Beta Blocker radios are designed as a meditational aid and normally do not produce sound. They contain a crystal radio circuit with a germanium diode and few other parts. The radio as it comes from Mr Gold is pre-tuned to assist certain brain frequencies, and is not meant to be hacked...

However, I soldered in an audio connector and ran it to my computer. I used real-time DSP (Digital Signal Processing) with Audio Hijack to produce the sounds you hear continuously in real time, without post-processing. The AuPitch control was used to produce the Worm-Hole Transporter effects in real time.

The pitch seems to control the apparent "altitude' felt by a listener. Higher pitch seems "up". Lower pitch seems "down". Constant pitch yields a steady altitude, whether higher or lower.

More importantly, an upward CHANGE of pitch seems to produce the sensation of acceleration. (a downward pitch change produces somewhat dizzying deceleration!)

This sensing of acceleration is an indicator that one is moving from "one" location to "another" location, which is part of the fun of exploring Parallel Worlds!

  • nvm ill try to find it

  • @electronicstash

Check out my Instructable link on how to build the "Spooky Tesla Spirit Radio" in the "Show more..." box. It is a similar circuit as the Beta Blocker, above. Otherwise, check out Brane-Power and YoyodyneIndustries for Beta Blocker Crystal Quantum Radios and other products.

  • How do we know what were are hearing is real? It could just be some kind of fancy sound effecs.

  • @EnigmaMan88

It's both. It's fancy sound effects based on a real, live signal from the radio.

  • can you just burn this to a CD and stick a front cover on it? that was banging!!!!

  • how do u make it? show me how and how did u here from this?

  • @AnasTangi

Full build instructions for the Spooky Tesla Spirit Radio are available at Instructables...link is in the "Show more" box for this movie.

  • @MrfixitRick Where I can get the scheme for your modified version?

    Thanks a lot!

  • @MrfixitRick Oh okay, interesting. I only ask cause the sounds struck me as odd.

  • @javy0005

This spirit radio was made by EJ Gold and is no longer in production. I modified it by adding a 1/8 inch audio cord for sound out, and a variable capacitor for tuning.

Mr Gold does make the Beacon and Super Beacon that can be used as spirit radios and more (see brane-power(dot)com), or you can make your own design similar to my Spooky Tesla Spirit Radio instructable.
