For a Mattel Electronics party in 1983, Intellivision programmers Keith Robinson and Mark Urbaniec wrote and produced a video about life at Mattel. This scene, animated on an Intellivision development system by graphic artist Joe Ferreira King, lampoons the TV commercials starring George Plimpton. (Keith supplied the voice.)

  • So people who worked on Intellivision admitted that their games had worse gameplay than Atari? The biggest problem with Intellivision was its damn controllers! I haven't played one in a few years but my fingers STILL hurt from the last time I did!

  • Your head asplode.

  • If the face of your company was this guy and your job partly depended on George Plimpton you'd be pissed off too.

  • also, not much gameplay but it's still a great thing to have in my collection.

  • Who didn't chuckle at the "TOTAL DESTRUCTION OF a OLD FART!!!" part?

  • LOL that was funny! And you are spot on when you said that intellivision had no game play.

  • Actually he said "no gameplay" but great graphics. Hence the use of the word "but". Even the developers knew they we're screwed by the first generation of independent developers producing hits from Activision and Imagic.

  • How dare they fuck with George Plimpton

  • Hi. George Plimpton Here. For years i've been on your television screen, comparing ATARI and Mattel Electronics INTELLIVISION. We have the best graphics of any video game system! More Gameplay, but Great Graphics. For Example: Our most exciting visual effect ever; TOTAL DESTRUCTION OF AN OLD FUCK!!!!!

    (BBAAAAANNNNGGGGGG!!!!!)
