Making a handmade journal from 100% recycled paper.

This will be a several part series. In this short segment, you'll see how I turn an ordinary 100% recycled composition book into a handmade piece of art.

Watch our segment next week, where you'll see part of the paper making and book binding processes.

  • It's 100% recycled because the cover is molded with paper pulp made from post-consumer junk mail and packaging material. The interiors are either handmade paper from the same stuff or 100% recycled printer paper or a 100% recycled composition book.

  • Are you saying it's 100% because the comp book itself is from post-consumer waste? I'm confused..

  • See below -- I put the answer in the wrong spot!

  • Or, rather, above :-D

  • Thanks, BamaBill!

  • You could also paint the "green man" dark green all over and then, once it's dry, brush or sponge the lighter-colored highlights onto the higher contours. Might be a slightly different look.

  • What brand is the journal at 2:00?

  • WTH...your intro sounds are way too loud. Scared the crap outta me. The rest of the video is good, why ruin it with that noise? Please.

  • thanks, love the information

  • Very nice! I wish I could have seen how you molded your paper for the cover.

  • Yes! Junk mail paper rocks!

  • Have you ever used lint to make paper?

  • Beautiful! Why didn't I think of making a custom hand made journal instead of buying one?

  • fuggin cool!!!!!!!
