The world is filled with Emerging superpowers from every continent, the EU can be one too, but Finland or UK or France alone cannot. If we obstruct the natural evolution from nation-states we are denying ourselves any voice whatsoever in the world that is to come.

You ought to read the Treaties (if you can get them) particularly the small print then you will see the monster we all seem to be happy to be in!

I'm scared by the zeal of some of you guys. I understand your arguments about sovereignty, but it's a necessary sacrifice. If the EU collapsed, Europe is finished... there is no further chance for the reemergence of European power in the world. Whether or not that matters to you, it does mean that we will be laughed at throughout the world. EU Collapse is exactly what many Americans and other emerging superpowers hope and pray for.

The Europen Union is set up like the old Soviet Union. We are witnessing with the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty the formation of a new country with its own legal powers, sovereignty and administration and it is completely undemocratic. One of its 1st acivities will be to stifle all criticism of the European Union - this provision, apparently, is within the Treaty and is a jailable offence. When Freedom of Speech goes we will not be able to make these comments anywhere

Agreed. It appears to me that the original point of the EU (or rather, the European Coal and Steel Community of 1951) was to ensure that the french and the germans stop warring each other and dragging everyone else into it.

In this case, it's a success.

So I see no need to involve the UK in its clumsy beaurocratic flailings.

The EU has all the trappings of a state but without citizens... the Constitution/Lisbon is supposed to solve that little problem !

It is also no longer a secret that the un-elected commission would like it's own armed forces as recently reported by Open Europe, the suggestion is that France and Britain surrender their overseas naval bases to EU control `to protect Europe's sea lanes´against China etc.

I'm sure the next war will all be over by Christmas !

Vote in June against this madness !
