I think a lot of people are missing the point. They weren't making fun of Vietnam or how serious it was for Veterans. The movie within the movie was SUPPOSE to be serious. However the actors within the movie within the movie were complete idiots. They took them out to the woods to teach them a thing or two. That's when they, in their stupidity, get caught up in 'real' issues. But they're too stupid to know it. They weren't playing light on Nam. They were more making fun of themselves as actors.
