@HeartLocker Louis XVI actually banned this book in France before the Revolution because he found it immoral. However his wife Queen Marie Antoinette was a fan of it and had copy in her library! This book is credited with helping the Revolution along though because it exposed the "moral corruption" of the Aristocracy.

@aaabbbccd1000 Funny because I always thought he was awful. Alan Rickman and Lindsay Duncan made this play famous between 85-87. They were utterly awesome. Rickman is naturally sexy in a very manly way (I see Malkovich a bit too effeminate). And Duncan's just so regal. Besides, they two were and are more attractive than Malkovich and Close. But of course they were unknown then. I'm sure Rickman and Duncan would have made a better movie. Go and see clips of their work in that play.

@HeartLocker No, this movie is based on a novel published in 1782, a decade before the monarchs were beheaded. It was in the Louis Seize period, Rococo to architects.

It's beyond my control... It's beyond my control... I fell so hard for John in this movie :)
This movie is much much better than the remake Cruel Intentions. Cruel Intentions is just the trashy version, where it's just about the sex and lesbian kisses. In this, it's about deception and manipulation.
