YES one LAPTOP per child. See wikipedia for clarification.
Someone was thinking it is amusing to joke around with Microsoft`s intentions to push windows where it does not belongs.
it is not.
-
olpc is one laptop per child not licence?

At least until the corporations spread their hooks into the third world, and these little kids are used to Linux when the rest of their country is using Microsoft.
Open Source is awesome. I love Linux... but come on... let's not pretend Microsoft doesn't have a foothold for a reason.
-
The title is in reference to the now seemingly out of date notion that the OLPC charity would move to a "Windows Optional" set-up.
Doesn't seem likely now... good for some reasons, bad for most... but that's what was intended.

Wow, the XO-2 is a VERY nice-looking computer (for its purpose). My main concern, however, is that it looks as if it is more fragile than the original XO due to the *touch* screens. How does this compare to the original in terms of durability?
Additionally, it just seems like a touch screen, not to mention DUAL touch screens, must make the unit more expensive.
I don't know, maybe they've engineered it to be as rugged and inexpensive as the XO. That would be wonderful.

The video poster is angry that they aren't made by Apple perhaps.

Then please explain why the customer support lines are always so busy.
If it was so easy they wouldn't need help opening ports for their proprietary packages or worse, reconfiguring their printer.
Having used a sugar emulator for the last hour, I can say with confidence. Sugar is the best choice for this computer, you can add to it and even write for it easily from the basic interface. As the children grow possibly add a alternative "traditional" shell to the linux core so they have the SAME terminal functions but a new interface as well as Sugar.
Windows on an XO is foolish. Why do you need it? what benefit is their to 3rd world children? Linux is useful in the "real world"

it may be familiar to you, but would it be familiar to someone in Africa who has never seen a computer at all?
