  • Cool videos and thanks for the good tip in this one!

Maybe you could help me out on something I was wondering about...the certification of health for the JET Program says that ones medical records are required. How much of your records are necessary and how did you get those? Any help is very appreciated. Much luck with you job teaching! James

  • Hey James,

The only thing you need to do at first is fill out the self-evaluation on the application. At first, they are concerned with mental health or any serious existing medical conditions that would prevent you from doing your job.

Then, once you are accepted, you will be asked to see a physician and get a short physical, where they will check your general health and your lungs. This is to ensure you do not have tuberculosis.

  • As for the records, when I applied, I didn't need to get them. Unless something changed, the only time you would need anything more than the self-evaluation and physical, would be if there is a condition that they are worried about. In this case, they may want to see more records to ensure you are fit for the job. I wouldn't worry about this too much if I were you, especially at this point. Right now, the most important thing you can do is create a fantastic statement of purpose.

  • I almost made that mistake, until I saw your video! Thanks for posting it.

  • You are welcome! :)

  • ..crap..too late -,-'

  • @DeeDoubleYou81

    I applied but no luck.

    regarding the medical assessment

I didn't know if I should include something I had 10 years ago or not.

I didn't know that we were going to make a final trip to a doctor eventually.

some people say in general never include something that happened 5 years or older.

    What are your thoughts.

  • There's a lot more to worry about as a JET, as far as your career goes. With the copius amount of cash as a young and single person, I suggest getting your TESL/TEFL certification and starting your Masters in a related field via online course because the Japanese teaching staff nor JET will give you any useful knowledge if this is what you want to do as a career. So when your contract runs out and you go to work elsewhere in Japan, you're going to be lost as far as knowing how to manage class.

  • I'm sorry that happened to you but it was nice for you to warn us ><

  • WHAT!!!??? Damn, yeah, you do deserve free medical treatment! Well, I guess one what or another, we all pay for it!
