  • Fantastic, amazing. Both singers. I miss Beverly. Who are the best singers nowadays? Does anyone know? Are they on par with the great singers of the past, Sills, Battle, Sutherland, Price, etc? I would love to have heard "The Swedish Nightingale", I think it was Jenny Lind?

  • awesome!!!

  • Very different sized voiced. Both were caught here at less than their best (and both did wonderful, wonderful performances in their careers). It's interesting to see totally different idiosyncracies emerge over the years, Sills always turning to her right for high notes, Battle starting to do strange things with her lips and jaw. :-)

  • what amazing women both of them, my fav is battle, but their craft is incredible!

  • @lginpdx - please, spare me. Kathleen is a superb technician. It is Sill who can't compete with Battle's techniquite, precision and clarity of tone.

  • I agree.

  • Bubbles wins? Better arrangement (IMHO), warmer delivery, more ease, better phrasing, sweeter floating top notes.

    K. Battle has one of the sweetest lyric voices ever, but her top notes sound strained and she can't compete with Bev's agility and technique. And what is with that loud, distracting nose breathing at the very end of the aria. Shame on Kat and her singing coach!
