The Medicinal leeches are grown in sterile environments under FDA regulations. It's probably true that a variety of leeches would do, however these specific leeches are the focus of virtually all studies. Anyway, for $8 each, it's not a bad price and you know they are hungry and ready to go. You also know they haven't been contaminated by human blood yet.
just to clarify this.. There is no such thing as "medicinal leech" They use the term because that is how they sell it and they try to make you believe that , somehow this is a magical creature specifically raised to heal people.. The place we grew up, we used leeches all the time. My mom used to put them on our back or chest if we got sick. When we were kids we used to dig leeches out from muddy standing water and took them home in a plastic bag. It is an excellent therapy though.
The best way I have found to stop the continued slow dripping of blood, which my continue for around 10 hours is by direct pressure and then some kind of water proof pressure bandage. I have found that IV site bandages work well. You can also order leeches through the mail.
should use prophylactic antibiotic
