This is the first track from a concept album, "Children of Denmark", by my on-again, off-again project, Hot Love on the Wing. It is based (VERY loosely) on the play "Hamlet". Even the name, "Hot Love on the Wing", is taken from a line spoken by Polonius.

Album artwork by the very talented M. Blees. Check out her other work online at: http://melinablees.carbonmade.com/

Lyrics (By Wells Andersen, unless otherwise noted):

Spoken:
Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres, / There is music in the midst of desolation / And a glory that shines upon our tears.
They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow. / They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted; / They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. / At the going down of the sun and in the morning / We will remember them. (For the Fallen; Laurence Binyon)

Sung:
A good man was laid to rest today.
Thronged by dark-veiled ladies!
Esteemed by glistening eyes!
Before they lay you low they bear you shoulder high.
(A good man was laid to rest today! / A good man was laid to rest today!)

The mother-wife is wringing her hands.
At the clamor in the garden!
At the comfort in the knife!
Do you give a soul when you take a life?
(A good man was laid to rest today! / A good man was laid to rest today!)

CHORUS: The Prince is in the pulpit / The Devil's in the wing / A choir of orphans, the people sing!
(A good man was laid to rest today! / A good man was laid to rest today!)

Green fields tremble for the coming rains.
Blades at attention!
Nine guns and a spade!
Beating wings of the Valkyrie, plying their trade.
(A good man was laid to rest today! / A good man was laid to rest today!)

CHORUS
(A good man! / Such a good, good man!)

Spoken:
The LORD is thy keeper: / the LORD is thy shade on thy right hand.
The sun shall not smite thee by day, / nor the moon by night.
The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: / he shall preserve thy soul.
The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in / from this time forth, and for evermore. (Psalm 121)
