My cockatiel is about 2 months old and ive had him for 2 weeks, the first few days he never made this noise and now he makes it every time you go near him - but if you open the cage he flies out onto me and makes the noise right in my ear and i cant stand it!It had been properly weined from the breeder and i know it was late coming out of the nest, but it seems perfectly healthy in every other way besides this - help please!!

  • It's a sound that young babies make to announce that they are hungry.

Some cockatiels keep making that sound for a little longer because of habit.

  • He is not completly weaned. Your cockatiel is asking u to feed it. Baby cocktiles bob thier little heads and make that screeching noise 2 get ur attention when u get buy. It seems ur baby has accepted u as their parent/flock. So now it is doing what they know best, beg for food , this will go away in a few weeks as they learn to depend on foraging what u place in the cage or when u spend time w/ them on the floor. They love millet, and boiled eggies! Lots of green veggie.s

He's not scared, he's begging for food. I have i 21/2 months old male, and he's doing that. When i'm near his cage he sounds like a chainsaw, when i pick him up he continues until i put a mixed bowl of pellets/seeds and peas (which he devours) infront of him. Even then, i'm still having to encourage him to eat it.

  • What I did with my cockertiel was put a seed between my lips as tho i was mummy bird then he'd take it from me & eat it, same with a bit of biscuit. now he gets a bit of food in his mouth & 'feeds' me with it!!! lol

  • It wants food.

  • Asking for food.

  • Took me a few tries to hit the like button as I was laughing too much and couldn't keep my hand still.

  • Remember, no chocolate, no onions, no cooking rice, popcorn nuts in teflon dishes either, it will kill them. And no avocados. Lots of greens, broccoli, mustard greens, parsley and apples! Have fun w/ ur new baby! She/he is darling!
