This video shows stages in the creation of my 8 foot drawing, Beginagain. It demonstrates how to approach large scale figure drawing; it shows how to work transparently by building the figure from the shapes that make up the mass of the body instead of simply drawing exterior contour lines, then building value generally to specifically, then developing a figure/ground relationship. The drawing is done in vine charcoal, and also demonstrates a process I have created called melking, a technique that seals the charcoal and the paper so that I can oil paint over selected areas. • Hey Mel, nice work. Did you finish grad school already? Surviving as an artist? Been awhile since we talked. Love to catch up sometime.
