My male platy keeps chasing one of my females and I'm not sure why!
~~~~
UPDATE:
They were moved into a larger tank just over a month ago, I've even tried seperating the male for 3 weeks and it made no difference.
I know have a solution, one of my best friends Laura is going to take Mustard off my hands and I trust she'll take good care of him. Cherry and the other females are much happier without him around so I'll be sticking to just female platies now!
Thank you for trying to help =)
Hope you like platys as much as me.
Get four or five females for every male to reduce stress.
@Pop12646Okami yes I am well aware of that, but I can't get females as they are most likely to be pregnant and drop a load of fry on me again! >.< So I'm gonna have to stick with males. But from what I've heard it's not so bad if theres 3+ because the stress gets evened out a little. I'd probably have at least 5 of them.
@harperc Well, you could get all females. Males could start fighting with each other, whether you have a female with them or not. That's why the ratio for males to females is 1:3. But, if you have all females, you may not have that many fighting problems :)
Unless it's territorial fighting, but females are said to be less territorial than most males.
@Pop12646Okami they're gonna stay alone for another few months just so we're 100% sure they're ok and then we might move them into a different tank and put a few more platies in. I think we'll be sticking to males though, if there's any more breeding I think my dad will kill me! lol
@harperc Sorry about your platies :( But I guess it's good that the two fry are doing alright :) Are you going to add any new platies, or other fish to the tank?
@Pop12646Okami yes I know about the constant fry-dropping! the others females were driving my dad mad! lol
Unfortunately a few months ago I had a problem with callamanus worms and lost all but two of my platies. The remaining two were fry from different mothers (unfortunately neither from Cherry) who are still healthy in the tank. Both males so no breeding and they get on fairly well (with the occasional chase here and there lol)
@harperc Ah. Well, she could be out of eggs. Platy have fry every two-four weeks, about seven to nine times before they run out of eggs.
Again, she is the most vibrant one in the tank. The male may be jealous of her.
By the way, what did you do with them? I was just wondering, since this video is a year old.
