David Belle's "Street Reporters" interview. Translated by special request. : )

David Belle discusses Parkour, talks about its origins and how the discipline relates to life in general, and passes on some advice to those just starting up.

Typo alert! In the video I translated 60 metres and wrote the conversion as 2000 feet. 60 metres is actually only about 200 feet (196.8504 to be exact). I actually proof-read the video four times and never caught the typo. Sorry. My bad. It didn't make sense to repost by the time I caught it.

Please note: I didn't interview David Belle and neither did I shoot or edit this interview. I've only translated the interview and added subtitles. In a couple of places, the words were kind of hard to make out, so hopefully I hope I didn't make too many errors. Also, the interviewer's voice was completely garbled and I couldn't make out a thing he was saying, so obviously I didn't translate anything he said.

Finally, on translating "le parcours": When David said what sounded like "le Parkour" (in the way traceurs think of it), he was actually using the original french word "le parcours", from which the word "le Parkour" was derived. Roughly it means "route, course, path, way". However the manner in which he used "le parcours" made it difficult to translate. "Le parcours d'agilité, le parcours de silence" simply doesn't translate well into English at all. Everything is lost in the translation. I settled on "the way" even though it is not a particularly good translation because I couldn't really find a better word. So "le parcours" means "the way" but "le Parkour" means "Parkour".

  • 60 metres are 200 not 2000 i think?

  • Yeah. I had actually caught that a few weeks after the video was initially posted. It didn't make sense to repost the video so had addressed it in the video info here ======>

  • At the end, I suppose he's talking about if he were to get arrested. What did he say about it being a "game" though?

  • hearing someone else say what you've been thinking is always inspiring...hearing someone like David Belle say it....wellllll...its downright powerful stuff.
