The Only High School Production of Jonathan Larson's "Rent" in So Cal that Didn't Get Shut Down by an anxious school administration! "Rent" deals with AIDS, homosexuality, and drug addiction, and therefore is sketchy territory for school officials, even though the show's message of love and redemption is wholly positive.
Los Angeles, California area South El Monte High's inspirational cast and faculty set an example of what theatre is about with their unlikely and brave rendition of the show!
This feature from Hollywood Happiness Reporter's Sean A. Mulvihill, gives an insider's look at the production and the amazing group who put it on. Director Chip Healy, 19 years as the drama director at the school, has really set the bar for what a drama teacher can do: he saves lives.
