Bloc Quebecois collapse

It may only be temporary, but the Bloc suffered its worst ever defeat in the 2 May election. Giles Duceppe may even resign. Quebec voters swung heavily for Jack Layton's NDP platform and may force the BQ back to its sovereigntist roots.

Quebec thinks it can be its own nation will it proves it can't. They are the poorest of all the nations and have a infastructure thats collapsing with federal funds being granted every year but they don't realize that once they leave, they have no basic economy or major trading partners, no currency and no oil. Plus, since the economy is so bad, they probably would suffer and quebec is cold during the winter which means not much food as well while Canada has wheat and fruits. Not a good idea

such attitudes are feeding the drive for freedom by Q, irrational hatred of an eventual independent Q by people that often know little about Q culture and values shows independence is preferable. Its interesting that in Q federalist parties aired ads that did the opposite of previous years by being respectful (almost paying homage) to the BQ, hiding the real face of ROC that lildrunkpanda shows, thus diluting BQ

I'm actually rather sad about that, too.

I long thought that most separatists were rather mean and unnecessarily angry but Gilles was a cool head and steadying influence. Hell, he was also a very nice guy. I've met him a couple of times and was always impressed.

I guess he and Michael Ignatieff felt it was time to bow out and let politics work its magic.
