@mattimattiusa In 84' leg separation was not a deduction, watch any other ten awarded routine, many of them had leg separation. By the '84 standards this was a ten, and to be honest it was the most worthy 10 in these Olympic games along with ma Yanhong's EF bars.

@mattimattiusa You would have to know nothing about gymnastics at these Olympics to think this was not a ten. This was by far the most difficult beam routine being done, Look at her tumbling skills, most of those skills became popular in 1991, seven years later. Not to mention people were getting tens with hops on their landings so this was an 11.00.

@mattimattiusa The landing wasnt perfect, but I will tell you why she got a 10. This routine so outshined all the others in difficulty and composition that the judges gave it a 10. The routine had four layouts in it, which didnt even come into vogue until '92. I asked Muriel Grossfeld why there so many imperfect 10s in 84 & 88, and she said that the 10 served two purposes: perfection, and ranking routines. If the routine wasnt perfect, but was superior to a 995 routine, a 10 was given to rank

@MrMartinportnoy after the games she went back to trainng national team and made some tv commercal in romania because they notice she a cute little girl that was so popular making her sweetheart, her father felt that the coaches wasn't really paying attending to her so her father pull out the team and now she has her own gym in romania and she got two kids

she was amazing gymnast with great looks

exceptionally difficult and innovative routine, such shame Simona couldn't continue competing after 84 olmypics, with personal problems with Romanian coaches and her father, she was such cutie on the team and talented too, her beam routine was shocker at 84 like she showed amercan crowd like look me what i can do on the beam better szabo and Mary Lou and she showed alright with10 and a gold with szabo

It's funny because if you watch it thoroughly, seems that the floor excercise music, matches her beam coreagraphy. By the way, it was Mary Lou Retton's music which is a Romanian folk tune !!!
