The heart of the OMAP 5 platform: ARM Cortex-A15Ty Garibay, TI's Director of IC Engineering for OMAP, and Nandan Nayampally, ARM's Director of CPU Product Marketing, discuss the next generation core at the heart of the OMAP5 platform - the ARM Cortex-A15. The Cortex-A15 processor delivers significant improvements in both performance and features compared to its predecessors. Over the last three years, TI worked hand-in-hand with with the engineers at ARM as the advance lead partner to develop the Cortex-A15 and we're excited about all it will enable in next year's smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices with an OMAP 5 processor inside.
@ThisLadChanny Yes, they dominate in numbers but not better games. I know its subjective but I'd rather have ONE system that is better for games that won't be obsolete in 6-8 months. Handhelds and consoles are not judged or measured by benchmarks but by games. Every new smart device I've read about never mentions what it does the last one can't besides faster ui and web browsing or non gaming features. I own a smartphone, tablet and handheld and traditional controls are better for games.

@labounti Abit late but time by 2013, smartphone would have dominated portable gaming. Since the quad and new gpus are out in 2012.

Yh i think so becuz for some reason the mobile oems eg samsung always skip omap platform and impliment there own as what they did whit the galaxy s sgx540 shich is the gpu found on omap4 pared with a cortex a8 wow. Anyway it dosent just matter about the gpu the clockspeed of the gpu's have a big role to play as we say the ipad 2 with sgx 543mp2 at 200mhz does around 45mill triangle compared tp psp vita sgx 543mp4 unknown clockspeed does 133mill triangles a second bogh on omap4.

I get Windows 8 that support ARM Cortex CPUs

@Xytos That won't change the fact that both this and Vita will use the same GPU. and the Vita will still cost less and have more support and better games than anything made for A15 devices(look at the Issue with Tegra and its slow ports and small user base for gaming). Plus by 2013 Vita will still have great support while Omap 6 or whatever will cost you more to do the same things you did on OMAP 4.... 2013 Vita will still be $250 but will have a broader market and no need to upgrade hardware.

wow. for these reasons and more, DO NOT buy the psvita. heck, dont buy any sony products PERIOD. they will rip you OFF!!!

these are the first iteration of a15s? this looks gorgeous. will TI makes later iterations that are more pc-ish? like quad cores, 4mb L2 .. many clusters? or short clusters with 4mb l2 per cluster (dual core and dual cluster but still with the full l2 in each cluster)? ^^
