A great, if slightly out-of-sync, sketch from Series 2 of The Micallef Program

Sean Micallef is a largely un-recognised genius.

I'm peeved that his show "Newstopia" isn't around anymore, and that he's reduced to doing the "...Your Generation" thingy.

-I think it's a sad statement on how dumb the general Aussie public is, that such a talent as his gets such little recognition.

-not to mention a real shame...

I understand your sentiment and agree Newstopia is ridiculously hilarious, but sometimes it's good to let something great go. Too often good shows go stale. I still think Your Generation is funny and showcases Micallef's humour.

It's been said before but I'll say it again (for a wind up),

It's great that Micallef has managed to keep a steady work career in Australia for around 20 years (I didn't use Wikipedia), he's a major talent that produces material to back it up so don't be too cynical about Australian media, look mainly to SBS and ABC for quality that lasts, Micallef you do us proud but more importantly you stimulate and give us heartfelt laughter

He's the best stand up comedian ever. Perhaps read the sentence again. The point is his success didn't depend on the level of sophistication of the cultural market.

Shaun Micallef is indeed an incredibly acute comic mind.

However, many talented people go unrecognised due to lack of influential critics, local cultural references and refusal of large cultural markets to fairly assess outsiders: it's rarely because their public is dumb.

George Carlin didn't succeed because of the intellectual sophistication of the general American public. And indeed I'd love to hear suggestion of where such a high-brow nation may be. Subtly is rare everywhere.
