Paul Simon's first solo attempt 1972, went to Jamaica studio "studio 1" to get this distinctive sound the same as everyone was doing back then, The Stones , Elton john etc etc, used Jimmy Cliffs backing singers and Whitenys mum Cissy, result, nice reggae influence!!!!

Thanks! It is a great song! I can remember people using it for Roe vs Wade like they use to say Mellow Yellow was talking about smoking banana peals and yellow sunshine lsd.

The title of the song has its origin in a chicken-and-egg dish called "Mother and Child Reunion" that Paul Simon saw on a Chinese restaurant's menu. But the song was written for a dog of Simon's that was run over and killed.
