Since Eden is a big Star Wars fan as of late, I decided to throw together a video I thought she would like..
About 2 months ago, her mom and I found an '86 Honda NQ50 Spree scooter (it's not a Mo-ped, dorks, stop calling it one) for $50 at a roadside yard sale. As parts and time allowed, I rebuilt it, cleaned it, repainted it and went through the usual carb issues with a bike that has been sitting for years.
Anyway, I finished it last weekend and brought it home to Eden, my Gf's 11-year-old daughter. She has a bicycle with hand brakes, so that was no big deal. Before we let her try it with the engine running, we wanted to make sure she could stop. We pushed her about 8 times, having her stop when we said to.
I started the engine and explained the hand throttle. In about 10 seconds (literally- maybe 12 seconds at the most) she twisted the grip and took off.
She rode it around most of the afternoon like an old pro. Since we live next to a UPS depot, we have access to a large parking lot where she can practice.
I'm guessing she will actually want a dirt bike at some point soon, although she says she's holding out for a sport bike! :0
