Expedition leader Paul Deegan proposes that in today's risk-adverse society, the habit of taking a risk -- even a small one -- needs to begin in childhood.

At the age of 18, Paul co-led a 47-strong expedition to clean up three decades of rubbish at Everest Base Camp. Since then, Paul has led an expedition to a previously unexplored mountain range in Central Asia, worked with scientists on the frozen Arctic Ocean, and made three attempts to reach the summit of Everest.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
