Guy Debord calls the apple store

The audio work is not mine, it comes from the fantastic people at audioanarchy.org. I downloaded their collection of readings from Guy Debord's Society of the Spectacle, and was listening to it on my way to work on the subway the other morning. I spent the rest of the day in this strange 'matrix' like mode. I felt like Keanu Reeves, and instead of looking at my co-workers, products, billboards, food, etc.... all I saw the rest of the day was the matrix. numbers flying by me. I got home and made this little collage of some of the things from the spectacle to go with the audio...

The issue is real clear, you're entranced by the spectacle.

This aspect of the spectacle does not put a gun to your head, it does not beat you, it does not tie you up and force you to attend to it. You do all this by choice.

Your options are to admit you love it, turn your back on it, or continue telling yourself lies about what you are. Now if the second was the preferred option, you would have done it long ago without even noticing

Lefties are funny. We got mass murder, mass starvation, and violent oppression running rampant all over the globe, and they're worried about the reason other people value the goodies they acquire.

Besides, I'm really not sure how many people value commodities as commodities. No one I hang out with does, because I don't hang out with people like that. If you don't respect that kind of valuation, don't hang with people who hold it.
