He was the first to have that "off the cuff" mc style that everiyone copied. Off stage, appearantly, though, he was Eddie Bracken-Red Buttons horrible. He told a just starting out Alan Young (of mr. ed fame), when introduced to him, to go out into traffic and get hit by a car. That type of person. No one in show business at the time could stand him. But read his Wikipedia bio. theres a routine about the song Tea For Two that is hilarious!
Jack Benny and George Burns were two fellow performers who admired Frank's talent- but NOT the man. Jack didn't like the way Fay approached his vaudeville act, rarely changing or updating his material {"His attitude towards the audience was, 'You people are lucky enough to see the great Frank Fay, no matter WHAT I do'!"}. George, Gracie and Fay appeared on the same bill once. He took Gracie aside, telling her what a great talent she was...then, Frank asked her, "But where did you get the man?".
I would like to know more about his relationship w/ Barbara. I don't think she was a lesbian maybe just bi. Remember she was married for Robert Taylor for a long time.
@GJNCA Yes, you're right, there are two sides. I'm a big fan of Stanwyck but she wasn't any more perfect than Joan Crawford or Bette Davis! Although she seemed more together than both of them!
