On July 17, 2010 we planted 258 Arbequina and Arbosana olive on our farm just outside of McMinnville Oregon. If these trees do well we plan to expand to 5 acres of olives. With any luck we will start producing olive oil in about two years.
There is certainly no guarantee at all that the trees will survive. There is however several other olive orchards locally that have been in the ground several years and seem to be doing fine. My fingers are crossed.
That's odd, we lived in Salem for 9 years and don't remember seeing a single olive tree anywhere. I also grew up in the SJ Valley, where tons of olives are grown. Obviously two extremely different micr-climates. You sure these are going to grow and produce in McMinnville?
