I cannot help thinking about people who were starving on wars, ghettos, sieges, etc. How desperate they were? For every citizen of a city under a siege, how desperate would he have to be in order to eat a tomato in a given stage of decomposition? How easy/how hard it is for them to overcome the aversion from eating a spoiled fruit? Could it be that there could be a level when a man eats a rotten vegetable instinctively, without any doubt, just because he knows that that's what he must do?
