I love this show. Accurate to a tee.

Everyone should join with me in applauding the incredible detail and accuracy in which this is done, instead of covering up the past and acting like smoking, drinking, adultery, racism, and sexism were not part of the culture.

It's offensive, but not because its on the show. The show is set in 1962, that is how people acted in 1962. But black face is highly offensive. It equated blacks to, ignorant, slack jawed yokels, who shuck and jive.

DrummerBren13- a little history: Whites used to perform in blackface up to the mid 1950's or so often perpetuating negative stereotypes of blacks, while real black entertainers were often prohibited from earning money in "respectable" (read: whites only) venues. Blackface died out with the ascent of TV and movies. Blackface characters were rarely hardworking, intelligent or moral. Some say it's time now to lighten up (so to speak) and laugh. Others argue denigration is never funny.
